Do you need a higher
Professional Liability limit of liability?
You may have several different options: |
Professional Liability Policy Limit Increase: Increase the limit of liability on your current Professional Liability policy by endorsement.
- The insurance company will require an explanation for the increase, as well as confirmation that you are not aware of any claims or potential claims. Click here to download “No Known Claims” sample wording. CNA / Lloyds / Travelers / All Others
- With most insurance companies, they will pro rate the annual additional premium for the higher limit based on the actual date that your limit is increased.
- Many insurance companies will not make your higher limit of liability retroactive until your next renewal or anniversary (for multi-year policyholders) date. With these insurers, the new limit will only apply to claims that arise from wrongful acts that were made after you raised the limit.
Project Excess: Increase the limit of liability on your current Professional Liability policy for just one project by endorsement.
- The insurance company will require details of the project. Click here to download Project Excess Questionnaire. CNA / Travelers / Everest National / All Others
- Most insurance companies do not allow more than two (2) of these endorsements per policy term.
- Generally, if the fee from the project is more than 50% of the total income from your last completed fiscal period, it is a better value to increase your limit overall (see above).
- This endorsement is not available once construction has begun.
Client Excess: Increase the limit of liability on your current Professional Liability policy for just one client by endorsement.
- The insurance company will require details of the projects. Click here to download Client` Excess Questionnaire. CNA / Travelers / Everest National / All Others
- Most insurance companies do not allow more than two (2) of these endorsements per policy term.
- Generally, if the fee from the client is more than 50% of the total income from your last completed fiscal period, it is a better value to increase your limit overall.
- This endorsement is not available once construction has begun.
Separate Specific Project Policy
Due to the adverse loss experience of the insurance industry with these policies, it is difficult to find interested insurers. With very desirable projects, your own insurance company may consider this as an accommodation for you. But higher risk project types like multi-family or recreational projects are not likely to be eligible at all. And because the premiums for these policies start in the $50,000 to $100,000 range, small and mid-sized projects are not good candidates. Click here to download application.
